Netflix Self-Torture Experiment Trilogy #28 - Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation
This was a suggestion from @DasJorge.
Synopsis from Netflix: Everyone’s favorite chainsaw-wielding psychopath, Leatherface (Robert Jacks), is back for more prom-night gore, and this time he’s joined by his bloodthirsty family. Four stranded yet carefree teens are taken in by a backwoods family, clueless of their host family’s grisly habits. The terrified youths, including sweet Jenny (Renee Zellweger), try to escape from Leatherface and his crazed clan, including the bionic Vilmer (Matthew McConaughey).
My thoughts: This movie was a blatant case of false advertising. Let’s go through the statistics:
- Number of people killed: four, possibly five (and one of them was a bad guy).
- Number of people killed with a chainsaw: zero.
Yes, a chainsaw was wielded on a couple of occasions but nobody was ever actually killed with one. For a movie whose title contains the phrase “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” there really should have been at least a few grisly chainsaw deaths. I don’t even think four murders qualifies as a massacre, let alone a chainsaw massacre. With all of that in mind, who’s to say this even took place in Texas? Nothing about this film makes any sense!
I do have to say, though, Matthew McConaughey playing a murderous psychopath is hilarious. Maybe it’s because this is the third bad movie I’ve watched tonight and I’m pretty drunk, but I was entertained by the absurdity of the whole thing. It was incredibly stupid and it didn’t live up to the title, but at least it made me laugh a few times. [Two out of five stars.]
