Netflix Self-Torture Experiment Trilogy #47: Caddyshack 2
This was a suggestion from vb. I’m not really sure why I’ve never seen Caddyshack 2, but I think I just know it’ll be bad so I haven’t wanted to spoil my memory of the original.
Synopsis from Netflix: With Bill Murray gone, Jackie Mason fills the position of chief funnyman in this sequel. Wealthy contractor Jack Hartounian (Mason) and his daughter Kate (Jessica Lundy) want to join a high-class golf club. Some of the members, however, have a problem with Jack, and they mount a campaign to keep he and his daughter out. In retaliation, Jack buys up the club’s stock. When the club members refuse to leave, the fight must be settled on the links.
My thoughts: Well, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting but it was still a really watered-down version of the original. Making a Caddyshack movie without Bill Murray or Rodney Dangerfield is like making an Indiana Jones movie with aliens in it for no apparent reason.
Thank goodness Chevy Chase showed up to be in a few scenes because, although Jackie Mason was moderately funny, there was no consistent humor like in the first film. Everything about it was predictable except for how annoying Randy Quaid’s character turned out to be.
Honestly, I don’t know how to make this review entertaining. It wouldn’t be enjoyable for me to completely trash the movie since I still respect the franchise, but I certainly have no desire to watch this sequel again. [Two out of five stars.]
