Netflix Self-Torture Experiment Trilogy #68: Bring It On Again
I’m pretty sure I saw the original Bring It On, but I might be confusing it with You Got Served. Either way, this movie is bound to suck.
Synopsis from Netflix: Rejected by the college cheerleading team, a band of girls decide to form their own squad in this entertaining sequel to the original hit that mined the humor and the competitive spirit of high school cheerleading. Starring Anne Judson-Yager, Bree Turner, Faune A. Chambers, Richard Lee Jackson and Bryce Johnson, the sequel follows the maverick cheerleaders as they prepare to compete against the college team.
My thoughts: When I was in college, I attended sporting events for the following teams:
- Football
- Men’s basketball
- Women’s basketball
- Baseball
- Men’s soccer
- Women’s soccer
- Women’s volleyball
- Field hockey
You know what I didn’t care about? Cheerleading.
I’m not trying to say cheerleading isn’t a sport; I honestly think it is, but this movie made it appear as if an entire college campus (including the dean himself) would give two shits about which squad they sent to nationals.
What was more bothersome, though, was the lack of finality. Whittier and Monica were able to convince members of the theater, ballet, and martial arts squads to join their “Renegades” team because they could win back their lost school funding if they won at nationals. Big problem: after defeating the varsity cheerleaders in the competition to go to nationals, the movie ended.
What the fuck? Are we just supposed to assume they went ahead and won? I want to know the fate of the theater program at fictional Cal State College! I’m gonna be pissed if they don’t make another sequel… [One out of five stars.]
